Radical Poetry Reading with Danusha Laméris

Poet Danusha Laméris is the author of The Moons of August (Autumn House, 2014), and Bonfire Opera (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2020), winner of the Northern California Book Award in Poetry. Her work has been published in The Best American Poetry, Orion, The New York Times, The American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Tin House, and Prairie Schooner. The recipient of the 2020 Lucille Clifton Legacy Award, she co-leads the Poetry of Resilience webinars, was the 2018–20 Poet Laureate of Santa Cruz County, California, and is on the faculty of Pacific University’s low-residency MFA program.

Poet Nickole Brown is the author of Sister (Red Hen Press, 2007) and Fanny Says (BOA, 2015). Currently, she lives in Asheville, North Carolina, where she periodically volunteers at several animal sanctuaries. Since 2016, she’s been writing about these animals, and To Those Who Were Our First Gods (Rattle, 2018), a chapbook of these first poems, won the 2018 Rattle Prize. Her essay-in-poems, The Donkey Elegies, was published by Sibling Rivalry Press in 2020. In 2021, Spruce Books of Penguin Random House published Write It! 100 Poetry Prompts to Inspire, a book co-authored with her wife Jessica Jacobs, and they regularly teach together as part of their SunJune Literary Collaborative. Every summer, she teaches at the low-residency MFA at the Sewanee School of Letters.

Poet Jessica Jacobs is the author of Take Me with You, Wherever You’re Going (Four Way Books, 2019), winner of the Devil’s Kitchen and Goldie Awards, and Pelvis with Distance (White Pine Press, 2015), winner of the New Mexico Book Award and a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award. Chapbook Editor for Beloit Poetry Journal, she lives in Asheville, NC, with her wife, Nickole Brown, with whom she co-authored Write It! 100 Poetry Prompts to Inspire (Spruce Books, 2020). Her collection of poems in conversation with the Book of Genesis will be out from Four Way Books in 2024.

Poet Keetje Kuipers is the author of three books of poems, all from BOA Editions: Beautiful in the Mouth (2010), chosen by Thomas Lux as the winner of the A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize, The Keys to the Jail (2014), and All Its Charms (2019), which was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, as well as the Pushcart Prize and Best American Poetry anthologies. Keetje has been a Stegner Fellow, Bread Loaf Fellow, and the Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Resident. She lives in Missoula where she is Visiting Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Montana, editor of Poetry Northwest, and a boardmember at the National Book Critics Circle.

Poet Angela Narciso Torres is the author of What Happens Is Neither (Four Way Books, 2021), To the Bone (Sundress Publications, 2020), and Blood Orange (Willow Books, 2013). Recent work appears or is forthcoming in POETRY, Poetry Northwest, and Prairie Schooner. A graduate of Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers and Harvard Graduate School of Education, she received First Prize in the Yeats Poetry Prize (W.B. Yeats Society of New York). She serves as a senior and reviews editor for RHINO Poetry. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Manila, she currently resides in San Diego.
